Thank you for contacting me about recognising the efforts of key workers.
I share your admiration for the frontline workers who have made immense sacrifices to help those affected by the pandemic. Restrictions presented enormous challenges and our key workers have performed remarkably in supporting people across the country.
The Government has now established the UK Commission on Covid Commemoration and the Rt Hon Baroness Morgan of Coates has been appointed Chair. She will be supported by 10 members from across the UK who have knowledge and understanding of some of the issues experienced by those affected by COVID-19 and are well respected in their fields of expertise.
Working together with the administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, the Commission will consider how we can commemorate the service of critical workers, recognise the experience of those who were seriously affected by COVID-19, celebrate the advances in UK science, and remember the national spirit which led to so many people volunteering to support their neighbours and communities.
Additionally, it remains possible to nominate someone for an honour in recognition of their work in the traditional way and hundreds of people have already been recognised for their exceptional contribution to the Covid-19 response. Although the Covid-19 honours nomination form has closed, you can still nominate someone for an honour or award. Further details are available at the following address: https://www.gov.uk/honours/nominate-someone-in-the-uk
The dedication and sense of duty shown by key workers throughout the pandemic has been exemplary. I am grateful for their work in ensuring that society can continue to function.
Thank you again for contacting me.
