Darley Abbey Bridge Closure

On Friday 13th May the bridge linking UNESCO World Heritage Site with Old Lane in Darley Abbey was closed by the City Council following an inspection.

Throughout the closure I have met with Derby City Council, stakeholders, local businesses and residents to discuss the impact the closure of the bridge is having, concerns over the closure, possible long term and short term solutions. I have held discussions with Government Ministers, The Crown Estate and the National Lottery Heritage Fund regarding support for the closure.

I am delighted that on the 13th July 2022, Derby City Council and the Conservative Cabinet Adminstration have approved funding for a short term, temporary pedestrian footbrdige for Darley. This would see the bridge being placed over the existing structure and could be in places in as little as 5 weeks from the point of order.

As always I am committed to helping find a solution and offer support to those who have been affected.
