On Friday 13th May the bridge linking UNESCO World Heritage Site with Old Lane in Darley Abbey was closed by the City Council following an inspection. 

Throughout the closure I have met with Derby City Council, stakeholders, local businesses and residents to discuss the impact the closure of the bridge is having, concerns over the closure, possible long term and short term solutions. 

I have held discussions with Government Ministers, The Crown Estate and the National Lottery Heritage Fund regarding support for the closure. 

I am committed to helping find a solution and offer support to those who have been affected.

Darley Abbey Bridge Update

Today a further meeting was held with Derby City Council and local stakeholders to discuss the bridge closure. The council have a clearer idea on the reality of a temporary structure.

I am aware of the issues surrounding the closure of Darley Abbey bridge and the disruption and concern this is causing. 

I have been liaising with the council and have contacted the Minister in Government and will be helping to work towards a solution.

On Wednesday 22nd June I attended the Derby City Councils drop in event, where I was able to speak to the businesses that have been directly affected by the bridge closure. 

You can still access the fantastic businesses operating in the mills via Haslams Lane.

Following my continuous communication with Derby City Council regarding Darley Abbey Bridge, I am pleased that they have received the reports from the extended assessment of the bridge and they are further assessing the possibility of a temporary solution.

I had the chance to meet with Nichol, who is the owner of Darley Abbey Wines and The Cottonworks. I had the opportunity to discuss Nichol's concerns over the bridge closure.
